Director of Engineering

The Director of Engineering is responsible for the overall architecture, implementation, quality, security, and availability of CareStarter’s next generation SaaS platform, reporting directly to the executive team. CareStarter is a startup working to establish prominence in the healthcare marketplace; as a consequence, this position requires a high degree of organization and adaptability.


  • Building, managing and mentoring CareStarter’s engineering group
  • Working with the sales team to translate requirements into technical objectives
  • Defining and directing engineering tasks for the staff and/or contractors, including cost and schedule estimates and status
  • Providing feedback to the executive team regarding the impact of proposed system changes
  • Ensuring continuation engineering by making sure the technical details of the platform are sufficiently documented and up-to-date

Required Experience

  • Must have deep experience developing and/or leading the development of high availability, micro or nano-service based SaaS platforms at scale (AWS experience is highly preferred)
  • Must have recent hands-on experience with at least one relevant programming language (Javascript, Go, Python, etc.)
  • Must be experienced with RESTful API design principles
  • Must be able to direct all aspects of the development lifecycle, including front-end, back-end, DevOps and QA processes

Desired Experience

  • Experience with SaaS security best practices greatly desired (e.g., AWS IAM/Cognito, Auth0, Okta, execution policies and permissions)
  • Experience with serverless architectures highly desired, particularly AWS Lambda and AWS API Gateway
  • Familiarity with basic relational database design principles and technologies (e.g., AWS RDS/Aurora, MySQL)
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) concepts helpful (e.g., AWS CloudFormation, Terraform)
  • Experience with adherence to compliance standards a plus (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, ISO 9000)


Bachelor's degree (or higher) in computer science, engineering, or other technically relevant field of study
